ABOUT FOUNDER, Wesley Smoot

Wesley Smoot is the founder and driving force behind Unleashed LGBTQ+, a three-day conference and festival redefining how LGBTQ+ professionals, creatives, media, and allies connect. Often described as a “Gay SXSW,” Unleashed blends entertainment, advocacy, and industry innovation through celebrity conversations, film screenings, panels, nightlife, and community-driven programming. Under Wesley’s leadership, the 2025 edition—held September 19–21 in Dallas—features major talent including icons like John Waters, celebrated journalists, national nonprofit leaders, and influential creators across television, film, business, tech, and the arts.

A natural connector, Wesley has built Unleashed into a national platform that elevates LGBTQ+ voices while partnering with organizations such as HRC, Local Media Association, News Is Out, and Dallas Voice. He also created Unleashed’s signature recognition programs, honoring trailblazers with the John Waters Lifetime Achievement Award, Excellence in Journalism honors, and Allyship Awards that spotlight leaders making meaningful contributions to the community that included none other than Mark Cuban.

Wesley expanded the brand in 2025 with the launch of Unleashed LGBTQ+ Premium Vodka, a Texas-made, six-times-distilled, cane-sugar-based spirit crafted in partnership with Hangover Street Distribution. With a philanthropic commitment of donating 5% of net profits to LGBTQ+ organizations, the vodka line reflects Wesley’s mission-driven approach to business, brand-building, and community impact. The product is already gaining momentum in bars, restaurants, and retail outlets across Texas through partnerships with major distributors.
